Published in Paperback by Ten Speed Press (October, 1999)
Authors: Carol Sherman, Andrew Smith, and Erik Tanner
Average review score:

A Must Read for the Cannabis Aficionado
This book is a wonderful compilation of the history of cannabis/marijuana and is superbly illustrated with many drawings and photographs. The authors do a great job of presenting the information about this plant without being biased towards legalization or total criminalization issues. After reading this book in a local library, I decided I needed to have a copy for myself. Thanks, Amazon, for having it in stock at such a great price.

Highway Robbery: The Truth About America's Auto Dealers--How to Buy a Car Without Getting Taken for a Ride
Published in Hardcover by Libra Publishers (December, 1989)
Author: Sherman Rothman
Average review score:

Book Description
HOW TO BUY A CAR WITHOUT GETTING TAKEN FOR A RIDE

This book provides an "insider's view" of exactly what goes on when auto dealership managers and their salespeople set out to deceive and defraud the public. The author, an attorney who also worked as an auto salesperson and manager for five years, takes the reader step-by-step through the process of victimization from the moment the buyer first enters the dealership until he or she finally walks out--sometimes hours later--"signed, fleeced, and laid away," as the dealers so aptly put it.

These startling revelations will confirm the public's worst fears--from the enticement of false and misleading advertising to the devious machinations of the finance department to the time the buyer goes back for repairs. The reader learns that the confusion, distortion, intimidation, and in many instances actual fraud, are practices condoned and encouraged by management. Mr. Rothman pulls no punches in exposing the secret business policies--many of which are illegal--in order to educate the public to the tricks they will inevitably encounter.

Most importantly, the author hopes (as will the reader) that the information provided will not only help the prospective buyer find his or her way through the mine field of auto dealerships, but will prove to be an impetus for legislative reform that is long overdue.

History of the Balkan Peoples
'History of the Balkan Peoples',is written by French diplomat,Rene Ristelhueber, and translated into English by Sherman D. Specter, with both men recieving equal billing on the book cover.Mr. Ristelhueber served in the French military during WW 1,at Salonika,Athens, and Constantinople. Some of Mr. Ristelhueber's diplomatic posts took him to Norway,Lithuania,Tunisia, and Bulgaria, and he spent WW 2 in Canada. His last "official" job was with The International Refugee Organization,1946-52.

If you are looking for a very detailed book on the Balkans, and it's many ethnic groups, and their histories, then this is the book.It is an indispensable reference material for any serious student of Balkan affairs, which are rooted in historical claims.

The book aptly starts with the ancient Greeks and gives a very detailed account of all of the Balkan peoples, including the long forgotten ancient ones such as the Dacian/Getae,Scythian,Vlach's and many more. This book has substantial histories of the Greeks,Bulgarians,Serbs,Rumanian's,and Turks. And also has specific accounts of these aforementioned Slavic peoples won their independance from the Ottoman Turks.Moving on through the Balkan War's,WW1 and WW2,and ending with a synopsis of the Balkan States since 1950 by Mr. Spector. Many maps are also included in the pages of this book, and help in making the reader understand every one of the Balkan peoples yearning for their previously "Great" state.

The Horns of Elfland
Published in Paperback by New American Library (May, 1997)
Authors: Ellen Kushner, Donald G. Keller, Delia Sherman, and Terri Windling
Average review score:

One of the best anthologies of the year:
There are some terrific stories in this collection, not least of which are those contributed by the editors themselves. "Audience" by Jack Womack has been chosen for the 1998 volume of "The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror" -- and the volume as a whole will be listed as one of the best of the year. I also heartily recommend Susan Palwick's heart-breaking tale.

How the Other Half Thinks: Adventures in Mathematical Reasoning
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (21 June, 2001)
Author: Sherman K. Stein
Average review score:

A Welcome Addition
This is a well written and much needed book. Of all disciplines, mathematics continues to be the least understood by the general public. Even among the scientists who use mathematics daily in their work, many are not fully aware of the true nature of the subject. One of the main reasons for this lack of familiarity is the absence of books that illustrate the mathematical way of thinking in a way that non-mathematicians can easily comprehend. In this book, Sherman Stein leads the reader through a number of genuine mathematical problems whose statements and solutions are presented in a way that requires no more than the use of common sense and, possibly, a few facts from elementary arithmetic. By reading this book, readers will have a chance to see how mathematicians think and what processes they go through before solving a mathematical problem.
The book consists of eight chapters, each starts with a simple question that leads to others, and from the discussion of these a general question arises and an answer is developed. This question then is often related to others asked by other mathematicians or scientists and, on a number of occasions, some applications are pointed out. Although the eight chapters are basically independent and can be read in any order, there is similarity in the type of questions they treat. The best way to get a flavor of the book--the type of questions it discusses and how the material is handled--is to read the first chapter, where a question that seems so simple at first glance leads to an interesting and unexpected solution. This spirit continues throughout the entire book. I believe that the author's choice of topics and the clear and interesting way in which he discusses them make this book truly accessible to any intelligent member of the "other half." The book also has something of interest to professional mathematicians as well; they will find that many of the problems it discusses are new to them.

How to Use the Power of Prayer
Published in Hardcover by Unity (June, 1985)
Author: Harold Sherman
Average review score:

Great book to learn how to pray correctly.
Learn how to use the power of your mind. And there's no other person to learn it from other than Harold Sherman. He was the first (along with Sir Hubert Wilkins the artic explorer) to experiment with telepathy in the 1930s, with 80% of SHerman's 'guesses' being correct 'hits' of WIlkins' activities in the north pole (Sherman was in the US while WIlkins was travelling in the north pole). So how did Sherman use his mind to keep track of Wilkins? No radios, no telegraphs, only his mind. In later years, he's learned more and more about the power of the mind. He used it to safe his very life, when he caught a throat infection, and he 'prayed' for a cure (eventhough his doctors said all of past 40 cases died in the past). So by a series of 'coincidences' he finally met the only person in the US who had the antidote. He is the man who knows how to make coincidences happen. I have learned much from Sherman and experimented his method, now I can create coincidences to work for me. You will learn that man is not left alone helpless in this universe, but a greater power serves us and gives us life. The more you connect to this power, the better results you get in your prayers. In this book, Sherman explains clearly what you need to make prayers work. What's important, and what's irrelevant. He gives examples from his own life and incredible examples of others.

Hueco Tanks Climbing and Bouldering Guide, 2nd
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (November, 1995)
Author: John Sherman
Average review score:

Huecool book!
In this book John Sherman has produced the quintessential guidebook for climbers wanting to go to the pinnacle of climbing - Hueco Tanks.

The descriptions and topos make it possible to find even the most remote climbs. The only problem might be when one area is referenced in its relationship to a previous area of which the reader might not be familiar.
But with a little patience and understanding of how the book is laid out I can't think of a better way to get around Hueco and make the most of your climbing experience.

Maneuvering through the book brings me to the introduction. While most people might skip the introduction to a book, this one is a must read to understanding Mr. Sherman's approach to the content of the book. Playing especially close attention to pages 16-20 will make navigating through the book much easier, saving the reader a lot of time and frustration.

The index or indexes are another plus. There are three - one is a typical alphabet type where one can find a climb by its name. But there are two others, one just for rope climbs and the other for bouldering problems. They are indexed according to difficulty, so if you're a 5.10 climbers can look up all the 5.10 climbs, or 5.9 or . . . .

Not every climb in the park is in the book, but then that would have taken an encyclopedia that no one would have been able to afford. With more than 300 roped climbs and nearly 700 bouldering problems there is enough in this book to keep a climber busy for a lifetime. There is also enough room within the pages (what we call white space in the publishing business) that will allow a climber to write in new climbs as they develop over time.

In the editorial department Mr. Sherman moves from railing at those who would ruin the climbing experience or ethic, to a funny (but useful) rating of plants (cactus) according to their texture: Heinous, Jingus or Casual.

This is how I would rate the following areas of the book:
Topos - Outstanding
Maps - Outstanding
Indexes - Outstanding
Photos - Excellent
Descriptions - Excellent
Editorial Writing - Excellent

In short, Mr. Sherman did an extraordinary job of opening this climbing mecca to those of us who do our hiking in the vertical mode. He has brought order to what were previously hand-me-down, word-of-mouth descriptions that, in the world of climbing, could prove dangerous to ones health.

Absolutely hysterical
This book is a riot. There are 9 authors from all over the world who write 5 pieces each. I don't think I have ever laughed so much in my entire life. It's wacky, witty, smutty, weird but most of all funny. I highly recommend this publication.

A lovely storybook to complement a wonderful lullaby!
What could be better than my favorite lullaby in the form of a storybook? The illustrations literally sail you far away into a dream world as the words/lyrics from the song guide you through this magical voyage on Lull-a-Bye Bay.

As a bonus too, Mr. Robert B. and Mr. Richard M. Sherman have written a second verse exclusively for this book. What a treat!
